As a child who didn't fit the catalog image of petiteness, shopping for clothing was a dreaded endeavor. Searching the racks of "husky" girl apparel, my only real options resembled young mens attire. Nothing was available that fit my fun, feminine personality-- which was being destroyed by not having the opportunity to make my outward expression match my inner persona.
The options didn't improve as I aged. Growing up an active member of the church community and singing my heart out in choir, required dressing up. The problem was, the only options to do so were the same items on the rack that the 70 plus -year old soprano in the front pew also had to choose from.
Color was and still is, not always an option in larger sizes. Rather than wearing vibrant colors that express the liveliness of our souls, we are jammed into polyester pieces in black tones, navys, and browns. Anything to hide our curves away from sight--to make us appear smaller and made to feel ashamed of the glorious bodies God gifted us with. Women deserve to be seen and celebrated for all of their curves, and express all of their radiant, inner beauty through clothing that feels just as authentic and beautiful. No matter the size, we are all wonderfully created, and we are all God's 'showpiece.'
My goal in founding Showpiece is to take plus size women's inner models and turn them into runway ready beauty. To show women of every age that you don't have to hide your curves in dark, drab swathes of fabric. This is an opportunity to showcase your radiance--by being and wearing, Showpiece.
